Steve Bolze, Investor and former CEO of GE Power & Water, Joins Sora Fuel Board
BOSTON, MA, June 24, 2026 — Sora Fuel, a climate technology company that makes jet and diesel fuel from just air, water, and renewable energy, today announced that Steve Bolze has joined its board.
Bolze is the CEO and co-founder of Standish Spring Investments, a venture firm that focuses on early and growth stage companies in the energy transition, advanced air mobility, AI infrastructure and life sciences industries. At Sora Fuel, he will join current board members Marc Tarpenning, Venture Partner at Spero Ventures and co-founder of Tesla, and Michael Kearney, General Partner at Engine Ventures, which co-founded Sora Fuel.
“The team Gareth and Patrick have assembled is already exceeding expectations, and I’m looking forward to joining the other deeply talented board members in helping the team scale their company to meet the huge market demand for sustainable, carbon-free jet and diesel fuel,” said Bolze. “Having spent decades at the intersection of industrial infrastructure and institutional capital, I can say that Sora Fuel’s technology has the rare combination of a clear line of sight with scaling technology now, modular deployment, and predictable unit economics given inputs that are much less dependent on volatile commodity supply chains.”
Prior to launching Standish Spring Investments, Bolze was a senior managing director and head of infrastructure portfolio operations and asset management for Blackstone’s dedicated infrastructure business. Before joining Blackstone, Bolze had a nearly 25-year career at General Electric, during which time he successfully led several of the company’s largest businesses. In his last role as President and CEO of GE Power and Water, he oversaw the company’s $28 billion power generation and renewables business, operating in over 140 countries with 52,000 employees; at the time its technology helped provide more than one-quarter of the world’s electricity.
“Steve joining our board is a huge win for our company, and he will make a great addition to what is already a strong group,” said Gareth Ross, CEO and Co-founder of Sora Fuel. “His unique combination of industrial and financing experience will help guide our company as we compete against not only established players in the sustainable fuel space, but the fossil fuel enterprises as well. As we work toward scaling production of our jet and diesel fuel product lines, Steve and the other board members’ counsel will play an important role in making that happen.”
The company recently closed an oversubscribed $14.6 million funding round. The round, which included Standish Spring, was led by Spero Ventures and Inspired Capital, along with strong follow-on investment from existing investors including Engine Ventures and Wireframe Ventures.
About Sora Fuel
Sora Fuel makes jet and diesel fuel from just air, water, and renewable energy. The company's proprietary Direct Air Conversion™ process – the only complete, closed-loop capture-and-conversion system in the world – captures atmospheric CO₂ and converts it directly into syngas. This process bypasses the most expensive step in conventional direct air capture and delivers carbon at one-tenth the cost of existing approaches. The result is a drop-in, carbon-negative sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and diesel fuel with a realistic pathway to price parity with fossil fuels. Headquartered in Boston, Sora Fuel is backed by leading climate and infrastructure investors. Learn more at www.sorafuel.com.
