Sora Fuel selected by IAG's accelerator program

CAMBRIDGE, MA, USA, August 11, 2025 — Sora Fuel, a technology innovator in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other sustainable fuels, has been selected by International Airlines Group (IAG) to join its 2025 IAGi Accelerator. Being part of the IAGi Accelerator will help Sora explore its promising pathway to scaling SAF within aviation. IAG is one of the world’s largest airline groups, consisting of British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, LEVEL, and Vueling.

Sora’s breakthrough technology enables production of drop-in fuel using just air, water, and electricity. Its integrated process captures atmospheric CO₂ at less than $50 per ton, an order of magnitude below today’s direct air capture costs, and converts it directly to syngas for fuel production. By eliminating feedstock constraints and enabling access to the world’s cheapest and most abundant renewable energy, Sora’s approach addresses the three fundamental challenges of scaling SAF — cost, feedstock, and geographic flexibility while cutting lifecycle emissions by up to 90% versus conventional jet fuel.

Joining IAG’s accelerator is a meaningful accelerant for us to explore how we can bring deliverable and affordable eSAF to market,” said Gareth Ross, CEO of Sora Fuel. It is a testament to the significant progress we have made with our technology since our founding. But the real goal is to get SAF into planes. This program advances that mission. We are excited to collaborate with IAG’s world-class team as we move closer to commercial deployment.”

The IAGi Accelerator is the Group’s flagship open innovation program. Since its launch in 2016, the IAGi Accelerator has supported over 120 companies over its nine years. Following the accelerator, alumni companies have gone on to form commercial and investment collaborations with IAG, as well as scale their technologies across the wider aviation industry.

This year introduces a new Discover” track for deep-tech startups focused on SAF, carbon removals, and fuel efficiency solutions. Sora will participate in a six-month program of tailored sessions with IAG and external experts, gaining valuable insights to accelerate commercialization and explore partnership opportunities.

About Sora Fuel Sora Fuel is developing technology that offers a new path for producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other e‑fuels by using just air, water, and electricity. Through an integrated capture and conversion process, Sora’s differentiated approach enables capture of atmospheric CO 2 below $50 per ton, an order of magnitude lower than direct air capture today, and convert it directly into syngas, a building block for drop-in, ASTM-approved fuels. This enables Sora to harness the world’s cheapest and most abundant renewable electricity. Founded in 2024, Sora Fuel was conceived within Engine Ventures based on research from the Berlinguette Research Group at the University of British Columbia.
